Horner nervous at start of Monaco GP: "That would be problematic"

Christian Horner admits that Red Bull Racing had to take a moment when they saw Fernando Alonso starting the race on the hard tires. Max Verstappen started on the mediums, but rain was predicted towards the end of the race in Monaco. Aston Martin potentially had a strategic advantage, but Horner witnessed a Verstappen who had things under control throughout the Grand Prix. The maturity displayed by the Dutch driver earned him his fourth victory of the season.

After an excellent lap, Verstappen secured pole position, making it seem like the most important work had been done. However, Alonso's differing strategy added some tension. "We had the forecast that there could be some rain towards the end of the race. When everyone showed their tires on the grid, you saw people on hard tires and on mediums. At that point, I thought, if the mediums degrade quickly and the hard tire manages to hold on until it starts raining, that would be problematic," Horner is quoted by Nu.nl.

As a result, Verstappen had to stretch his stint on the mediums until lap 55. Slipping and sliding, the Red Bull driver entered the pits for a set of intermediate tires as heavy rain started in the streets of Monte Carlo. "In hindsight, it would have been better to pit for intermediates one lap sooner. But after that, Max showed great maturity in the rain, took care of his tires, and completed the race. So, we really saw a top-level performance by Max today," Horner added.

Horner: "Not the first time the floor has been photographed"

Sergio Pérez had a disastrous weekend, starting with his crash in Q1. As a result of the incident, competitors had the opportunity to take a look underneath the Red Bull car. "The Ferrari and Mercedes were also photographed from underneath. It's quite impolite to look underneath a skirt," Horner jokingly says. The team boss has no issues with the RB19's floor being photographed. "Every team has espionage photographers to take pictures of this. So, I believe it wasn't the first time the floor has been photographed," stated Horner.
